10,000 Steps per day vs. 30-minute Brisk Walking Workouts.

Which is better?  Should you aim for 10,000 steps per day on your pedometer, or should you set aside 30-60 minutes for sustained brisk walking?

Adding at least 30 minutes of brisk walking to your day will add a few more benefits although you will still benefit from increasing your steps per day by 2000 to 3000. This is because your purposeful daily walking workouts generally will be performed at a moderate to high intensity which is optimal for achieving health and fitness benefits. The lower intensity, slower steps that you try to add throughout the day (ie, parking further away, taking the stairs rather than the elevator, etc.) will still provide health benefits, and the total daily steps do count towards a longer, leaner, and healthier life.

Here’s a great way to add those extra steps per day in a meaningful, purposeful way: Join the Tazza D’Oro Walking Group on Tuesdays from 7:30-8:15pm. We hope to see you there!
